4 Reasons To Fall In Love With Moscato

Mongioia Moscato

Never underestimate the power of a perfect glass of Moscato.

More than a dessert wine or something to order at brunch, the Muscat grape packs a powerful, fizzy punch for even the most discerning tastebuds. Born in the Italian region of Piedmont (Piemonte), the Muscat grape is believed to be one of the oldest grapes in the world and produces a wine that is sweet, low in alcohol and embodies flavors of nectarine, peach and orange. It’s this sugar that gives Moscato its sweetness and boost in popularity.

We love Moscato. And we think you should too!

Here are four reasons why.

Diversity

There are five different styles of Moscato – Still, Semi-sparkling and Sparkling, Pink, Red (aka Black Muscat) and Moscato Dessert.

Moscato d’Asti

One of the most popular Moscato wine styles is Moscato d’Asti which hails from the hilltop town of Asti in Montferrat, Piedmont, home of the infamous Barolo. It’s usually made in small batches by smaller producers. Fun Fact: modern production of Moscato d’Asti as it is known now began in the 1870s. On our radar is Mongioia, a family which has been producing these wines in the Langhe for six generations.

As a sweet wine, Moscato naturally pairs well with desserts such as gelato or an amazing piece of chocolate cake. But it also pairs well with spicy foods (think Thai or Vietnamese dishes!). And naturally apples, peaches and fresh berries complement the fruity hints in the wine.
