The outbreak is concentrated in the Midwest, but there is a single connected case reported in Arizona. Michigan has the highest concentration of sickened people with nine, followed by Wisconsin (3), Illinois (2), and Iowa (1).
"Seven of the ill persons reported eating a raw ground beef dish at the same restaurant before becoming ill," the CDC said in its report. "The restaurant served raw beef to customers and had acquired the raw beef from two retailers."
As a result of the outbreak, on Thursday, Jouni Meats, Inc. recalled 500 pounds of ground beef and Gab Halal Foods on Friday recalled an additional 550 pounds.
The CDC warns against ever eating raw or undercooked meats.
